Your service will be scheduled for a specific day of the week. In the event of heavy rain fall, it may be necessary to modify the schedule in that particular week. The grass will be bagged and carefully placed at the end of your driveway for trash pickup. If you prefer, prior arrangements can be made to mulch, deposit on your compost pile, or remove the bags.
We use commercial grade lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. These machines are kept in top condition with regular sharpening and maintenance keeping their emissions low reducing our carbon foot print and providing the best conditions for a strong, healthy lawn. Our professional staff is mindful of the attention you have put into your yard and strives to maintain, with meticulous detail, the same care and consideration. While every effort is made to maintain our strict schedule, heavy rainfall may cause a shift in the cutting day for that week. Grass is bagged and carefully placed at the end of your driveway for trash pickup unless previous arrangements are made to mulch, deposit on your compost pile, or remove the bags.
We thatch your yard, hand rake, clean up most garden, rock areas and driveways with a leaf blower, collect and bag the debris. This will prepare your yard for an even application of our high nitrogen fertilizer and pellet lime.
Thatching the lawn will loosen and bring to the surface dead grass and other compacted debris for collection. It will increase the amount of water and nutrients available for your lawn to consume by creating new root growth. As thatch accumulates, it prevents water, nutrients, sunlight and oxygen from reaching the roots of the grass. When this occurs, the grass is suffocated and starved, resulting in an unhealthy and unsightly lawn. We collect and bag the debris created by thatching, along with leaves and sticks. When your yard is clean and renewed an even application of our high nitrogen fertilizer and pellet lime will be applied as this is the optimal time for it to be most effective. It will be readily absorbed to produce the healthy, strong, green carpet you desire.
We strongly recommend including this in your spring cleanup service to give your lawn a healthy start. Additional liming and fertilizing will be applied per request. If you prefer, Crew Cut Lawns will arrange to automatically perform this service as needed.
We apply this using our broadcast spreaders to provide an even application, thus preventing unsightly “striping” other spreaders can cause. We use pellet lime and a range of fertilizer allowing for compositional makeup changes depending on the time of the year. In the spring we use 22-11-11, late June and early July 16-16-16, and during the fall 15-10-20. These three elements are nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium. Nitrogen, the first number, provides plants with the ability to produce more chlorophyll, which in turn allows plants to grow quickly. Phosphorous, the second number, aids in root growth and new grass development. This should be used when new grass or plants are being established in your lawn or garden. The third number represents potassium. Potassium has many functions. It guards plants against disease, aids in drought protection, increases cold temperature tolerance, and serves a role in improving root development. Depending on the time of the year and the condition of the lawn, we will modify this makeup to meet the specific needs of your lawn. We recommend our pellet lime to be applied along with our fertilizer. Limestone will help balance the ph level of your soil increasing your yard’s plant growth, giving it a healthy green color, and create a more porous soil which helps hold moisture and reduces watering.
There are many types of unwanted plants and mosses that can rob your grass of nutrients and moisture creating an unsightly, unhealthy lawn. Two of the most common problems are as follows;
Weeds and other growth in unwanted places:
In this instance we have an herbicide that will eliminate everything, grass, weeds moss, etc. This is usually requested for patios, walkways, driveways that are cracked and decretive rock work.
Broad leaf weeds like dandelions, chickweed, and clover growing in well-established lawns:
This creates a problem for the health of the lawn because weeds rob essential nutrients, resulting in an unsightly lawn and if left untreated can drift into the neighboring yards creating and even bigger problem. In this instance we would use a two prong approach. First, we use a weed and feed product as an alternative to our traditional fertilizer. For more established weeds, we have a broad leaf herbicide that does a fantastic job of targeting only the weeds without affecting the grass. In most cases the weeds will not return for the entire season. This product is purchased locally and has been successfully used by our company for over a decade. Our knowledgeable and experienced staff will assess your needs, recommend an appropriate treatment, and exercise the correct action.
We incorporate this into our weekly lawn mowing and trimming schedule as we mow late into the fall. The increasing leaves (turf areas only) and slow growing grass are collected and bagged. These visits do not deviate from the assigned week day and will be billed as your regular lawn mowing (unless there is a considerable increase in the number of bags or time involved).
If you would like a one-time fall cleanup, or areas cleaned other than the turf portion of the yard we will be happy to provide a one time clean up based on your needs at an additional cost. This service can include but not limited to: mowing, clean up of most garden, rock areas, and driveways with a leaf blower, collecting and bagging the debris for trash pick up. Please make sure to tell us what you are wanting so we can quote you an accurate price and tailor the service to meet your needs.
We provide a wide variety of services upon request. Including, but not limited to, edging of driveway and street curb, hedge and small tree trimming, aerating etc.
Aerating
Aeration is an important part of any lawn care program. A healthy root system is a must for an attractive lawn. Oxygen in the soil is vital for healthy roots. Root growth is inhibited by poor and compacted soils because of a restricted oxygen supply or heavy foot traffic. Our plug aerating opens the soil by extracting small plugs of soil, about 3-5 inches in length, and then depositing them on the surface to eventually decompose and disintegrate back into the ground. After completion of this process the soil is ready for watering, seed application, fertilizing, or natural rejuvenation.
Edging
Provides a well defined, professionally manicured look between your lawn and walkways, street curbs, planting beds and driveways. We can maintain the edge you already have, or create a new definition for a fresh look.
Hedge, Shrub, and Tree Trimming
Our professional staff will carefully determine the correct amount to trim your hedge, shrubs and trees based on your desired results. Trimming too aggressively could result in weakening the plant by shock or exposure to disease. It may require several trimmings to achieve the desired result. After each trim, the debris is collected and removed.
